Performance evaluations of hierarchical Ad Hoc Networking in emergency communication

Wireless Ad Hoc Network is a kind of network which has the characteristics of self-organizing without center, dynamic topology, distributed, peer-to-peer and self-recovery. Therefore, it is especially suited for emergency communication. Hierarchical Ad Hoc Network is hierarchical on node management, network access authentication and authorization, and is peer-to-peer on message passing among nodes. This kind of network is easier to realize in emergency communication than single-stage Ad Hoc network. In this paper, a performance evaluation of hierarchical Ad Hoc network will be carried out from three aspects, i.e. broadcast overhead, path loss and conflict probability.
