On the chemistry of the reactions between liquid sodium and urania-plutonia fuel for fast breeder nuclear reactors

Abstract Aspects of the phase equilibria and thermodynamic quantities for the various chemical reactions which can occur between sodium and irradiated oxide fuel for fast breeder reactors are discussed in detail in terms of the individual oxide and fission product systems. The contamination of the primary circuit by dissolved fission product species and particulate matter is also discussed in terms of the appropriate phase equilibria.
