Effects of PMU measurements correlation on state estimation results

State Estimation (SE) is the basis for every control and management application on a power network. SE relies on accurate real measurements. In the near future, these measurements are expected to be more and more frequently provided by Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). PMUs are very accurate measurement devices able to give synchronized phasor measurements. A degree of correlation exists in the data measured by means of PMUs, due to specifications of measurement devices. In this paper possible effects on the estimation results of correlation in data provided by PMUs are presented. Several tests done on IEEE 14-bus network are discussed. The presented results prove that accurate input data are significant for an accurate estimation, as well as a good knowledge on possible correlation in the measured data.
