TUNABLE PROTOCOL FOR MOBILE AD HOC NETWORK

Ad-hoc networks are a new paradigm in wireless communications that is set-up with wireless devices without any fixed infrastructure. Different protocols perform better in different situations. In this paper we conduct some experiments to develop tunable protocol for ad hoc networks. First we identified various tunable parameters for different layers and then we tried to find a way to adjust the parameters dynamically which will best suit the environment. This is done by adding management functionality to existing protocol. For our experiments we chose DSR as routing protocol and modify it to make tunable that can adjust the power level depending on other parameters. Effects of various parameters on network performance are investigated by doing simulations using NS-2. Experimental results show that the tunable protocol minimizes the rate of packet dropping and thus increases reliability of the network.
