Sequential turbocharging system is designed to enlarge the torque of diesel engine in part loaded conditions and reduce the brake specific fuel consumption. Hardware-in-the- loop simulation is a technology to design and test electronic controllers. In order to accelerate the development process and reduce the development cost, hardware-in-the-loop simulation was used to test controller of sequential turbocharging system. The work procedure is as follows: Firstly, real-time simulation model of sequential turbocharged diesel engine was built by the use of MATLAB/ Simulink software. The simulation results were compared with experimental data, it is proved that real-time model is suitable to test the controller. Secondly, real-time model was downloaded into processor of dSPACE platform, and interface models were designed and built in Simulink to simulate signals of real sensors. Finally, electronic controller of sequential turbocharging system is connected and tested by using of hardware-in-the-loop simulation in dSPACE platform.
