Carrier-Based and Space Vector PWM Techniques for Delta Inverter Fed IM Drive Operating in Linear and Overmodulation Ranges

This paper was aimed at a comparative study emphasizing the performance of two carrier-based pulsewidth modulation (CB-PWM) techniques and a space vector modulation method dedicated to delta inverter fed induction motor (IM) drives. In low-power drives, the delta inverter (also called B3-inverter) could be a beneficial voltage source inverter (VSI) versus the conventional two-level VSI (also known B6-inverter). Three techniques, namely: (i) sinusoidal PWM (S-PWM), (ii) third-harmonic injection PWM (THI-PWM), and (iii) space-vector modulation (AV-SVM) are analytically presented in order to control a delta inverter. The performance of the considered techniques are evaluated through experimental results considering both linear and overmodulation ranges.
