Fluid physics instrumentation study: final report: part I: system aspects

A somewhat abstract discussion of measurement processes is used to construct a table wherein various techniques for fluid physics diagnosis are collected. The usefulness of each technique for certain types of measurement problems in microgravity fluid physics is assessed. Detailed discussions of applicable techniques are collected in Appendices. A general consideration of the values of different diagnostic methods leads to the selection of an optical diagnostic instrument. The selection criteria are examined in detail. Part 2 of the Final Report provides the detailed design features of an optical diagnostic instrument. The performance of a functional breadboard of this instrument is described in Part 3. Part 4 consists of an executive summary and the Conclusions and Recommendations of the study.
