A Model for Allocating Automated Earthwork Equipment Using Contract Net

The earthwork operation for site development Is a good candidate for applying automation technology, because it is a very repetitive and tedious task and needs lots of construction equipment. To increase productivity and safety, an Intelligent Earthwork System(IES), which can perform the given earthwork operations automatically, was suggested in the previous research work. IES creates several equipment groups, which consist of various construction equipment and have the dynamically changed number of equipment during earthwork operations. In this paper, a simulation model is suggested to show flow the proper number of construction equipment for the given task package was set in an equipment group, and a mathematical model is also suggested to calculate a bid value for equipment assignment in the Contract Net developed by Smith and Davis. They can be applied to IES to make IES more intelligent.
