Formalization of the protein production by means of Petri nets

A new application area of Petri nets is introduced in this paper. In particular it shows how, by means of Petri nets, the protein production process can be modeled and analyzed. In order to develop a Petri net model of the protein production process, firstly the paper describes the protein production process from DNA. Although the aim of this paper is to develop a Petri net model of protein production rather then the molecular events and chemical reactions that occur during this process, some basic information about the molecular events, and precursors/molecules that are required for each step of the protein production process are described in both part one and part two of this paper, prior to the Petri net model construction. After constructing a Petri net model of the protein production processes, based on information contained in it, there are some program modules developed. These program modules are written in a pseudo functional language, which can be easily translated into any high level programming or simulation languages for final implementation.
