Navier-Stokes simulation of IGV-rotor-stator interactions in a transonic compressor

Time-marching multistage CFD analyses are being developed to predict the multi-blade row unsteady aerodynamics that drive HCF. It is imperative that these analyses be validated with appropriate benchmark multi-blade row flow environment data. This research addresses this required validation process for TURBO, an advanced three-dimensional Navier-Stokes multi- blade row turbomachinery CFD code. A TURBO simulation of the flow through the Purdue 1½-stage transonic compressor is implemented. The rotor flow field and the resulting rotor-wake generated unsteady flow through the stator row is predicted for both subsonic and transonic rotor conditions. The wake forcing function and stator flow field results are then correlated with corresponding benchmark data. Nomenclature
