Analysis of the RMS delay spread of indoor radio propagation channels

The results of the analysis of root mean square (RMS) delay spread for indoor radio propagation data collected at two office buildings are presented. The database for this analysis consists of 12000 impulse response profiles. The results indicate that the RMS delay spread tau /sub RMS/ is typically between 10 and 50 ns, with mean values between 20 and 30 ns. The RMS delay spread over large areas can be well described with normal distributions. The mean values of tau /sub RMS/ increase with increasing the transmitter-receiver antenna separation. tau /sub RMS/ values for spatially adjacent profiles are highly correlated. The average RMS delay spread at each location has a high linear correlation with the average path loss for that location.<<ETX>>
