Research on Requirements for Synthetic Making Test and Making Capability of High-Voltage Circuit-Breaker

Based on the understanding of international standard IEC 62271-100 for high-voltage AC circuit-breakers, the authors give some general introduction to the requirements for synthetic making test, in which the stress put on the switching devices and methods (substitute methods) for making test are mainly included. The short circuit making process initiated from the pre-arcing between electrodes is analyzed in detail, the rate of decay of dielectric strength (RDDS) and its rate of change, i.e., KRDDS that means the relative switching-on speed on the basis of maximum slope of the applied voltage, are introduced. The different stress condition of circuit breaker under different value of KRDDS during the making process, such as pre-arcing duration, pre-arcing energy and electro-dynamic force, and the making performance of circuit breakers under these conditions are analyzed. The analysis results are available for reference to phase-control making tests.
