The Making of Middle School Student's Parent-Child Relationship Questionnaire

Objective:To make a scale to measure middle school student's parent-child relationship.Methods:Based on interviews and literatures,we conducted pretest and test for accessing the construct validity of the scale by EFA(exploratory factor analysis) and CFA(confirmatory factor analysis) in 1097 Chinese middle school students.Results:According to the item loadings on different factors and scree plot,four components(26 items) could explain 36.029% of the total variance with loading between 0.454 and 0.727 in the scale.The four components were named Understanding and Communication,Excoriation and Controlling,Liking and Esteem,Growth and Tolerance.The follow up test shows these factors have acceptable reliability,their corresponding Cronbach's α coefficients are 0.837,0.755,0.747 and 0.656.The total reliability of the scale is 0.871.Confirmatory factor analysis was performed to test the postulated four factors model.the results show a rather good fit between the data and the model:χ2/df equals 1.779,the goodness of fit(GFI) is 0.88,the value fitting index(NNFI) is 0.87,and the CFI is 0.89,the IFI is 0.89.All these results confirm the present scale reaches the standard requirements of psychological measurement.Conclusion:the reliability and validity of the questionnaire and its application are relatively good.
