ADDITIVE SOLUTIONS TO DIESEL COMBUSTION PROBLEMS

The composition of marketed diesel fuels is gradually changing, reflecting changes in relative demands for the various petroleum products and in the crude oil supply. The net result is an inevitable reduction in cetane number and operability characteristics, but this decline can be countered in most respects by use of acetane improver additive. Other fuel quality factors such as viscosity can have a much greater influence than cetane number in the important considerations of gaseous emissions. Increased coke formation on pintle injector nozzles has also been linked to deteriorating fuel quality, but this can be controlled with the help of dispersant additives.
