Simulation-based performance evaluation of a concept for integrating intelligent maintenance systems and spare parts supply chains

Abstract Proper maintenance is essential for today’s production systems, since inadequate maintenance can cause breakdown times and related negative effects. However, many aspects can make the task of supplying spare parts on the right place at the right time challenging. In this context, this research paper aims to develop a simulation model to evaluate the performance improvements provided by the integration of intelligent maintenance systems and spare parts supply chain (I2MS2C concept). The simulation results displayed a significant transportation and storage cost reduction associated with the adoption of the concept.
