Method for managing storage information, and apparatus for the same

A method for managing stored information and an apparatus therefor are provided to make it unnecessary for a processor to directly access an external memory when the external memory is inserted such that latency for accessing information stored at the external memory is not required. A method for managing stored information comprises the following several steps. A controller senses whether an external memory is inserted into a terminal(S10). If so, the controller checks whether metadata stored at the external memory is interoperable with metadata stored at an internal memory, specially a heap memory(S11). If so, the controller stores the metadata, stored at the external memory, at a region allocated in the heap memory(S14). Otherwise, the controller generates metadata for the external memory, which is interoperable with the metadata of the heap memory(S13). If displaying image media is required(S15), the controller acquires all the metadata stored at the heap memory and arranges the metadata(S16). Then, the controller displays the metadata according to an arrangement order(S17). If metadata of a specific image medium is selected among the displayed metadata(S18), the controller accesses the corresponding image medium through the selected metadata(S19).
