Requirements of a Database Management System for Global Change Studies

Global change research is a form of scienti c discovery. This paper identi es database requirements for global change research by examining the process of scienti c discovery. We nd that current database technology is inadequate for the task and a number of de ciencies are pointed out. Speci c requirements are laid out in the areas of Data Management, Methodology Management, Flexible Environments, and User Interfaces.
