12 – Life cycle assessment (LCA) of building thermal insulation materials

: In this chapter thermal insulation materials and types of plaster and their properties are described. The impact of the selected thermal insulation materials and plaster on the environment is assessed using LCA analysis. A method of assessing the ecological and economic benefits resulting from thermal insulation of the external walls of buildings is proposed. On this basis, ecological and economic payback periods for thermal insulation are defined as well as the ecological efficiency of thermal insulation. The conducted analyses conclude that thermal insulation of the external walls of buildings is environmentally favourable.
