HONDA AND THE ART OF COMPETITIVE MANOEUVRE.

Abstract A lesson from the remarkable growth of many Japanese companies, illustrated by the development of Honda to its preeminent position in motorcycles, is their internal cohesion, spirit and flexibility, which in turn establish the suppleness and potential to adapt rapidly and strike quickly for market position. These qualities, exemplified at key moments of the company's evolution, derive in great measure from the unique leadership and traditions of its founders, but also reflect principles of organization, deployment of resources, and tactical timing that go back 2000 years to Sun Tzu's Art of War.
