The article describes an optimal multiphysic design method for automotive starter generators. The method is based on the association of analytical or semi analytical models (3D thermal lumped parameters network, electrical circuit theory with Park hyothesis, mechanical stress calculation) and finite elements models (2D flux density). These models are then implemented in a deterministic optimization loop. A synchronous permanents magnet integrated starter generator sizing illustrates the methodology interest.
