Analysis of electromagnetic loads on an ITER divertor cassette

This paper presents the key results of a transient electromagnetic (EM) analysis of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) divertor cassette. The analysis was done for the ITER 2002 year reference design with the aid of a TYPHOON code. Two plasma disruption scenarios, fast and slow downward VDE, were analysed. To optimise the use of computational resources, two independent transient EM processes were analysed separately for each scenario and superimposed afterwards. The first process is associated with the halo currents and variation of the toroidal magnetic flux generated by the plasma; the second process is caused by variations in the current, shape and position of the toroidal plasma.
