Cluster complex formation from the sulphur-induced disproportionation of a MoMo triple bond. The structure of [(η5-C5H5)3Mo3(CO)6S][η5-C5H5)Mo(CO)3]

Elemental sulphur reacts with Cp2Mo2(CO)4(Cp =η5-C5H5) to give the salt, [Cp3Mo3(CO)6S][CpMo-(CO)3], the structure of which was determined by X-ray crystallography.
