Induction motor modelling for short-term transient studies in a multigenerator-multimotor power system

Abstract This paper is the first of two companion papers which describe an investigation into the short-term transient behaviour of a power system containing synchronous generators, induction motors and series capacitors. It presents the two-axis nonlinear equations of the systems and describes a computer program which uses these equations to predict the small-signal stability and the transient behaviour of any general network topology as configured by the user. The user simply specifies the types of busbars, the generators or the motors and other shunt loads at each busbar, as well as the network parameters between busbars.
