Evaluation of Similar Search and Link Search's Performances

Google provides us many search features,but studies of the effectiveness of these features are rare in literatures.The authors of this paper investigate the effectiveness of two Google search features,similar pages search(similar search) and linked pages search(link search).Regular search is also evaluated as the baseline.20 queries were used and 20 objective Web pages were chosen to examine the retrieval effectiveness differences among similar search,link search and regular search.A one-way ANOVA method and regression analysis method were used in the study.It is found that the regular search achieved the best retrieval performance.The finding of this study can help users have a clear recognition to similar search and link search.And this study sheds light on how Google reacts to similar search and link search in terms of retrieval effectiveness.
