A general segment model for video-on-demand broadcasting with limit receiving ability

Today, video-on-demand (VoD) service takes great traffic flow on TV network and the internet. Applying broadcasting to provide VoD service could use the bandwidth more efficiently when server many users at the same time. In this paper, we present a general model to find the best broadcasting scheme for VoD service when limit user receiving ability, which can be adapted to various situations. We abstract the combinatorial problem into a mathematical optimization model and simplify it with allocation of redundancy. Through computer simulation, several results are given when specify user receiving bandwidth to twice of the video's. Experiments show their bandwidth-saving characteristics compared with existing methods.
