The trace amino acid pattern in human eccrine sweat.

Abstract With the aid of ion-exchange chromatography we investigated the amino acid pattern and the pattern of ninhydrin-positive substances in concentrated eccrine sweat of healthy men obtained from different parts of the body. In addition to the known amino acids, alanine, arginine, aspartic acid, citrulline, cystine, glutamic acid, glycine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, ornithine, phenylalanine, serine, threonine, tyrosine and valine, we detected 31 additional ninhydrin-positive substances in the sweat concentrate. Studies with test substances revealed the presence of the following: cysteic acid, o -phosphoserine, methionine sulphoxide, α-amino-isobutyric acid, glucosamine, α -amino- n -valeric acid, cystathionine, β-amino-isobutyric acid, ethanolamine, y -amino-butyric acid and carnosine.
