Channel occupancy and network utilization implications for a profile-driven resource allocation scheme in cellular networks

This paper addresses the implications on channel utilization and performance when a simple method is used for enhancing the quality of service (QoS) accorded to customers of cellular/PCS networks. Based on customer usage across cellular networks, user mobility profiles are created and maintained. This information allows preferential channel allocation to priority customers, while regular users are treated fairly. Simulation results are used to evaluate system performance. Results demonstrate improved QoS, viz., reduced handoff failures to priority users, while ensuring good QoS to other customers with minimal implications for channel utilization.
