A recursive least-squares aided by pre-filtering for phasor-estimation in distance protection

This paper presents a method for phasor estimation based on a Recursive Least-Squares (RLS) algorithm aided by a morphological filter. The method has been developed in the context of line transmission protection and the the morphological filter is projected to mitigate the influence of the so-called decaying dc offset interference on the phasor estimation. The method has been tested on synthetically built signals and on signals obtained through ATP simulations of a line transmission under different conditions of fault. The results show that the method is efficient and that the morphological filter speeds up the convergence of the RLS algorithm.
