Single Radio Transmission and Reception for Spatial Multiplexing MIMO

Single radio system can relieve the volume expansion that most MIMO schemes result in. The former studies presenting test results have focused on either single radio transmission or single radio reception, respectively. This paper presents test results validating the concept of single radio approach for realizing compact MIMO transceivers. Spatial multiplexing 2×2 MIMO transmission and reception were tested and validated using single radios. Recent results of research for achieving full spatial multiplexing gain with single radios are presented. This is the first report of full single radio experiment in that both transmitter and receiver adopted single radio scheme. The test results implies that it is feasible to achieve BPSK 2×2 MIMO spatial multiplexing with 12.78 dB SNR.
