Environment and project appraisal: lessons from two cases

The appraisal of environmentally sensitive projects should address several issues: the political dimension of natural-resource projects, the measurement of environmental impacts, and the use of cost-benefit and multi-criteria appraisal techniques. This article describes two applications of sustainability-oriented project appraisal: the appraisal of the Forestry and Environmental Protection Project in Colombia and a scenario analysis for Lake Burullus in Egypt.
