A novel balun structure with a composite right–left‐handed transmission line

A novel balun structure with a composite right–left-handed transmission line (CRLH-TL) is proposed. A microstrip implementation of the left-handed transmission line (LH-TL) and the equivalent-circuit model for the CRLH-TL are presented and the related parameters of the circuit are given. Utilizing the advanced phase-shift characteristics of CRLH-TL and combining the traditional right-handed transmission line (RH-TL) with the CRLH-TL, the design process of the balun becomes much easier and simpler. The novel balun structure operating at the center frequency 2.4 GHz with low loss and a wide frequency band is illustrated in detail. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
