Concrete filled steel tubular structures from theory to practice

The state of the art of concrete-filled steel tubes is presented generally in this paper. The general response of concrete-filled steel tubular columns is discussed with an emphasis on the composite action between the steel tube and its concrete core. The engineering practices of concrete filled steel tubes in industrial works, structural frames and supports, loading bridges, compressive members of truss, subway columns, electricity transmitting poles, spacious construction, high-rise or super high-rise buildings and bridge structures are introduced. Finally, the need for further research, such as behavior of concrete filled steel tubular structures during construction, concrete quality control, steel residual stress effects, creep and fatigue is identified.
