Frequency-domain image errors

Abstract Recent advances in digital-computer and optical techniques have made frequency-domain image processing both practical and advantageous. Errors can be introduced in processed images that are peculiar to frequency-domain processing. We present some expressions describing the quantitative effects on processed images of different types of frequency-domain errors. The situations in which these errors arise are discussed. The various error situations were simulated on a digital computer and the resulting corrupted images are presented so that an appreciation of the subjective effects of the errors on image quality may be obtained.
