A generalised technique for spectral analysis of non-linear systems

Abstract A generalised method for the identification of a large range of non-linear systems subjected to random excitation is proposed. The method is restricted to single input/output systems and is based on existing techniques for multiple input/output systems. Formulae for the implementation of the technique are given and the method is applied to the vibration of a single-degree-of-freedom system subjected to a turbulent buffeting force and to the analysis of a Duffing oscillator subject to random excitation. For both cases the results are remarkably good.
