Body weight measurement based on bending losses of single-mode fiber optic loops

In this paper, a fiber optic sensor based on bending losses of single-mode fiber optic loops is employed to measure body weight. Diameter of the fiber optic loop for weight sensing was tested and found that the most suitable fiber optic loop diameter is 20 mm. The performance of the fiber sensor was examined and compared with the conventional body weight scale. The fiber optic weight sensing system in this research is appropriate for sensing body weight measurement range of up to 125 kg.
