Tap Selectable Viterbi Equalization for Multipath Channels

This paper proposes TSVE (Tap Selectable Viterbi Equalizer), which has the capability reducing of the number of path metric calculations and the number of path selections. Taps with large coefficients and that may seriously effect to the data sequence estimation, are selected from the equivalent tapped delay line channel model composed of the channel estimates. We also considered the use of different the number of the taps in one burst frame, dual mode equalization, and their combinations. Computer simulation shows their bit error performance improvements.
