Video coding techniques for digital cinema

We survey the status quo of the digital cinema (DC) and focus on the compression part of the DC system. To make the system practical and economic, various video coding techniques have been applied to compress DC data for archive and distribution purposes. Based on the analysis and comparison of the state-of-the-art techniques, we point out three aspects of the AVS video standard to be adjusted to meet the special needs of DC data.
