Prenatal sonographic diagnosis of hemifacial microsomia (Goldenhar‐Gorlin syndrome).

Recent reports document that antenatal sonography may detect structural abnormalities of the fetal face including facial clefts, masses, and cy· clopia. i-3 Careful sonography frequently visualizes the fetal ear. 4 When antenatal sonography detects more than one structural abnormality, the association between the anomalies occasionally facilitates the diagnosis of a specific condition. We report a case in which antenatal sonography detected unilateral anophthalmia and a malformed, low-set ipsilateral ear. Based upon these findings, in conjunc· tion with normal fetal chromosomal analysis, the correct antenatal diagnosis of hemifacial microsomia. (Coldenhar-Corlin syndrome) was made.
