State of the Art: Bituminous Materials Mix Design

The purpose of this paper is to briefly summarize the state-of-the-art mix design technology in the United States at this time (2002). This paper includes a brief summary of mix design procedures developed during the 1930's and 40's for highway and airfield pavement and which are still in use today by highway and other government agencies. Other approaches which have successfully been used for mix design are also briefly summarized.
