Planning surveys and measurements

This chapter focuses on the general preparation and planning aspects that are common to all the RF exposures, and the approaches for testing these exposures. It can be studied under three headings: RF Leakage tests for unintended radiation, X-ray Leakage tests for any transmitters, and RF Exposure tests to establish the potential exposure. In talking about the selection and preparation of measuring instruments, the chapter says that at the present time, a mixture of “analogue” and “digital” instruments may be in use. Equipment such as spectrum analyzers and wideband measuring receivers should, if required for the survey, be chosen according to application, (identification of signals which interfere with the survey, determination of spectral components). The chapter deals with the whole range of activities involved in planning surveys, which includes instrumentation, measurement problems, and data required about the site to be surveyed. It also provides checklists from which readers can create their own local versions.
