An Overview of Dam Safety Monitoring Indexes

With the development of water exploitation and utilization,dam safety has become more and more important.Scientific and rational monitoring indicators are quite significant for identifying the working character and dangerous conditions of dams.Considering the background in which the dam safety monitoring indexes are put forward,this paper explains the significance and meaning of dam safety monitoring indexes,offers some methods of deciding dam safety monitoring indexes,especially deformation monitoring indexes including the confidence interval method,the typical small probability of monitoring volume effect method,the limit state method,the simulation method and the mechanical calculation method.Then this paper analyzes its current main challenges and development characteristics,discusses several issues on dam safety monitoring indexes,suggests using various methods for different projects,and even for the same project,developing appropriate monitoring indicators with combination of different conditions,which presents a comprehensive introduction of dam safety monitoring indexes.
