SLOPE CONTOURS IN FLEXED ELASTIC PLATES BY SALET-IKEDA TECHNIQUE

Abstract —The relevance of slope to theoretical descriptions of the flexure of thin plates is reviewed together with other experimental methods which have been employed to determine slopes in physical plates. Reasons are given for having chosen the Salet–Ikeda method for detailed development. Pilot apparatus which has been built to test the method is described and some initial results showing its capabilities as a technique for stress analysis are included. The intended further development of the technique and its application to practical problems is indicated.
