A Study on Incidental Vocabulary Acquisition Through Watching English Movie and TV

Second language acquisition researchers generally agree that reading is a main way to develop vocabulary.However,"reading"just applies visual input.After analyzing two important theories about Incidental Vocabulary Acquisition,namely Theory of Depth of Processing and Involvement Load Hypothesis,it is found that combing listening and visual input reduces learners' memory difficulty,consequently improving learning efficiency.Movies and TV series are the best resources to achieve this goal.Compared with reading input,the input of combing words,sounds and pictures creates a rich situational context and cultural context.And movies and TV series language input help learners moving from correctly understanding words to accurately using words.
