Disabilities, Children, and Libraries: Mainstreaming Services in Public Libraries and School Library Media Centers

Librarians and school media specialists have a prime opportunity to help disabled children break through the restrictions of their disabilities, discover their abilities and interests, and learn to make positive choices in their lives. This book aims to show how they can do it. Fostering awareness, and encouraging librarians to be confident of their ability to serve all children, it offers practical guidelines for selecting and adapting materials, and facilities and minimising the effects of physical, societal, and environmental barriers in libraries.
