A language orientation for the discrete event modeling of application programs and operating systems

Discrete event simulation of computer programs, particularly operating system programs, has until recently been an elusive objective of computer performance simulation. However, out of my own experience and my observations of the efforts of others, I have come to believe that the most direct approach to achieving such a simulation capability is essentially linguistic. I consider these subjects to be basic to any appreciation of the necessary aspects of a linguistic capability, and with these concepts in hand, I then turn to discussion of an explicit language orientation. This is broken down into two major categories, the first for representing the logic of a program and the second for representing the loads that this logic imposes on the system.
