1.25/10.3 Gbit/s burst-mode bit-rate discrimination circuit for coexisting PON systems

A novel 1.25/10.3 Gbit/s burst-mode bit-rate discrimination circuit (B-BDC) for dual-rate burst-mode optical receivers in coexisting 1 and 10 Gbit/s-class PON systems is proposed and demonstrated. This BDC can distinguish the bit rate of received burst signals and eliminate the external control signal currently provided for the receiver by a media access control LSI. It can operate instantaneously in just 50 ns.
