A Testbed For Optimizing The Monitoring Of Distributed Systems

Monitoring distributed systems is essential in maintaining reliability and correctness of their behaviour. However, ineecient use of resources by monitoring can degrade the performance of the monitored system's components. We are especially interested in strategies to determine conngurations of management agents that allow for distributed data collection, analysis and the dynamic formulation of monitoring requests, with minimal performance degradation, and in conformance with user/system requirements. We present an algorithm that generates the optimal con-guration for a given set of agents, managed objects and constraints. The algorithmis embeddedinto an optimizationtestbed. Experimental results are also presented.
