Polymer drag reduction of a zero‐pressure‐gradient boundary layer

The wall shear stress of a zero‐pressure‐gradient boundary layer was reduced by slot injection of a 1000 ppm solution of Separan AP‐273 at 5.1 times the flow rate in the linear sublayer. Velocity and concentration data were acquired at four streamwise locations that correspond to a Reθ range of 2478–3935 in the Newtonian boundary layer. The slope of the logarithmic region of the mean velocity profile in the drag‐reduced flow increased over the Newtonian slope. The sum of the viscous and Reynolds shear stresses was less than the total shear stress for 6≲y+≲100.
