A Proposal for Reducing Handover Latency and Improving Route Optimization in Proxy Mobile IPv6

To reduce cost and complexity of mobile subscriber devices, it is desirable that mobility may be handled by network systems only. PMIPv6 relies on MIPv6 signaling and the reuse of the home agent functionality through a proxy mobility management agent in the network to transparently provide mobility services to mobile subscriber devices. Handover latency resulting from standard MIPv6 procedures remains unacceptable to real time traffic and its reduction can also be beneficial to non real-time throughput-sensitive applications as well. This paper proposes an optimized PMIPv6 that relies on a rich set of informational resources to reduce handover delays; and then a more efficient intra mobile access gateway routing scheme.
