Implementation of Extended Finite Element Method with ABAQUS User Subroutine

Enriched terms were conducted into element displacement function in order to simulate the singularity of crack tip and discontinuity of crack surface for the extremely discontinuous problems.The level set method was contributed to determine and track the crack tip movement.A user defined subroutine UEL was coded to connect linear extended finite element method(XFEM) with commercial software ABAQUS.Two examples with XFEM were approached to the plane problems of Mode Ⅰ crack,mixed Mode Ⅰ and Ⅱ crack.It is found that XFEM has higher precision and more accuracy with less mesh than the common finite element method(CFEM).
